Tour Itinerary

Day 1- Arrive Siem Reap, Angkor

Transfer to your hotel. This afternoon, travel to the temple of Ta Prohm.

Stay: Two Nights, Siem Reap, Shinta Mani Shack

Day 2 – Angkor, Siem Reap

This morning, tailor your day by choosing one of Travelmarvel’s select experiences. Later, discover the remains of Angkor Archaeological Park, a long-standing tribute to the ancient Khmer Empire. Visit the 12th-century temple Bayon. Finish your day with a sunset at Angkor Wat.

Day 3 – Siem Reap, Embark Cruise at Kampong Cham, Koh Pen

Today your cruise along the mighty Mekong river begins! Travel through rural villages to Kampong Cham to the mighty Mekong River, where you will embark the RV La Marguerite – your home for the next seven nights. Enjoy welcome drinks, followed by lunch in the Mekong Restaurant. This afternoon, enjoy a tuk tuk ride through the agricultural island of Koh Pen. Travel along the shaded lanes, past wooden stilted houses tucked amongst palm and sandalwood trees. Depending on the time of year, you can see a variety range of crops growing, including tobacco or betel nuts, as well as coconuts and tropical fruits. This evening, meet your Travelmarvel Cruise Director for the Captain's Cocktail Reception, followed by dinner with your fellow travellers.

Day 4- Angkor Ban, Oknha Tey

This morning enjoy a tour of Angkor Ban, a village awash in stories of Cambodia’s cultural history, and one of the few traditional villages that survived the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. During a walking tour, view the traditional wooden houses standing intact on stilts and shaded by banana trees. Return to your ship and continue sailing towards Oknha Tey – also referred to as the Silk Island due to its rich tradition of silk weaving. Disembark and board a local Tuk Tuk for a village tour. Discover village life from the local homes to the rice fields, and the faces of the friendly locals. You can also continue on a walk for a more in-depth exploration of the village.

Day 5 – Oudong, Phnom Penh

Travel to Oudong, the former capital of Cambodia and a place of pilgrimage for the Cambodian Buddhist community. Visit the spectacular Buddhist monastery where you will have the opportunity to partake in a Buddhist blessing ceremony. Afterwards, you will have a traditional experience of an Ox Cart ride, which will take you around the villages. In Phnom Penh, the afternoon is free for you to explore or perhaps enhance your time by choosing one of Travelmarvel's select experiences such as a tuk tuk ride to uncover the sights and sounds of the city, or gain a greater appreciation of the local beers at the Kingdom Brewery (all at own expense). With the next two nights docked in Phnom Penh, you are free to experience the nightlife of the Cambodian capital. Or stay on board and view a documentary on the Pol Pot regime in preparation for tomorrow’s discovery.

Day 6 – Phnom Penh

Start the morning with a sobering excursion to the Killing Fields and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Located on the site of the Khmer Rouge’s notorious Security Prison 21 (S21), learn about Cambodia's Khmer Rouge history as well as the resilience of the local people. After lunch, visit the Royal Palace and the spectacular Silver Pagoda. The remainder of the day is yours to relax on board or visit the markets to pick up some bargains. While here, the brave can try the local delicacies of fried tarantula and crickets, or try out your haggling skills. Tonight on board return to the ship for dinner followed by a special Khmer folk performance on board.

Day 7 – Border Crossing, Tan Chau

Spend today on board as your ship cruises to the Vietnamese border. This afternoon, you might like to attend a fruit-carving demonstration by the ship’s chef while border formalities are carried out and you cross into Vietnam. Tonight, watch a documentary film about Pol Pot as your ship cruises towards the small Vietnamese town of Tan Chau.

Day 8 – Tan Chau, Sa Dec

After breakfast, transfer to a small boat and travel along the Mekong’s tiny tributaries, observing the stilt house villages. Go ashore for a tour of Tan Chau by rickshaw. Known as one of the largest silk-weaving centres of Vietnam, visit the fascinating local artisan workshops to learn more about the history of the craft.

Day 9 – Sa Dec, Cai Be

Take a boat ride to the charming colonial town of Sa Dec for a tour. Visit Huynh Thuy Le’s old house, once the lover of French writer Marguerite Duras, the namesake of your vessel. After lunch, step aboard a local boat as it transfers you to Cai Be to see the French Gothic cathedral. Go ashore to visit a local rice paper manufacturer to learn how rice paper is made. After, visit a coconut candy factory to see how the local sweet is created. Enjoy a final dinner on board your ship.

Day 10 – Disembark Ship, Cu Chi Tunnels, Ho Chi Minh City

Disembark at My Tho Port today and travel by coach to the Cu Chi Tunnels, a tunnel network built by Vietnamese resistance fighters during the Vietnam War. For dinner, you may like to choose from one of our select dining experiences.

Day 11 – Ho Chi Minh City

Explore Ho Chi Minh City at your leisure today. Perhaps take a fascinating history tour or see the sights on a city tour.
